About Ngala Safari Lodge

Ngala Safari Lodge is situated in &Beyond Ngala Private Game Reserve, which shares an unfenced boundary with the world-renowned Kruger National Park. It is part of the Timbavati Game Reserve which is to the north of the Sabi Sands Private Game Reserve on the western edge of Kruger National Park. All fences have been removed from the different reserves.

A spectacular diversity of wildlife moves through this immense wilderness, including breeding herds of elephant, leopard, spotted hyena, giraffe, large buffalo herds and white rhino. With its name meaning lion in Shangaan, the local language, Ngala lives up to its promise, supporting several large prides of these powerful cats. African wild dog can also be spotted moving through the reserve.

Ngala Safari Lodge is tucked under a canopy of mopane and tamboti trees and boasts 20 classic thatched cottages, including three family cottages with interleading rooms, and the spacious Family Suite.
Floor to ceiling glass windows make the most of sunny safari days and a private veranda offers the perfect setting for private dinners.
The gracious Family Suite accommodates four guests and includes a private swimming pool and the use of a private vehicle.

The lodge’s beautiful pool area beckons to those seeking refreshment and relaxation. A sparkling swimming pool and sundeck overlook a natural riverine woodland, ideal for avid birdwatchers, while a tranquil spa and a well-equipped fitness sala can be enjoyed in between game viewing adventures.

Hearty breakfasts and delicious lunches are served in the dappled shade of an enormous weeping boerbean tree. Upon their return from exhilarating evening drives, guests are welcomed by Ngala’s warm, hospitable staff and a banquet set in the elegant candlelit courtyard or an African feast in the openair traditional boma. The Lodge’s spacious thatched bar, dining and sitting areas are open to the warm breezes of the inviting African bushveld.

The Ngala Treehouse Experience

Cocooned in natural bush surrounds, this 4-level treehouse features two sleep areas: level 3 is covered and weatherproofed, with a king-size bed, and level 4, a sleep out platform under a retractable awning. Toast the sunset. Enjoy a starlit picnic dinner. You’re assured of an intimate wilderness experience, completely off the grid, themed in luxury and exclusivity.
Surrounded by home comforts, a stocked bar and a selection of midnight and breakfast snacks, you could be forgiven for thinking you were in a lodge. However, your night at Ngala Treehouse is essentially an overnight wilderness experience that complements your stay either at &Beyond Ngala Tented Camp or Ngala Safari Lodge.

Set within the Ngala Private Game Reserve, 5 km from &Beyond Ngala Tented Camp: the reserve shares unfenced borders with the Kruger National Park, home to the Big Five and more species of large mammals than any other African game reserve. Ngala (meaning lion) lives up to its namesake, with the reserve supporting several large prides.

Flights and Road Transfers to Ngala Safari Lodge

There are daily flights from Joburg and Nelspruit diretly to the Ngala Private game Reserve airstrip, followed by an easy drive to camp/lodge.
If you're driving from Johannesburg expect a Six-hour drive with good roads and the whole trip can be done in a two-wheel drive vehicle

Directions to Ngala Safari lodge

FROM JOHANNESBURG TO NGALA SAFARI LODGE

• Take the N12/N4 through Witbank (eMalahleni), then later left onto the R540 to Belfast (opposite the Engen Fuel Station).
• In Belfast, turn right towards Dullstroom and Mashishing (Lydenburg).
• In Mashishing (Lydenburg) look out for the information boards directing you to the R36 to Ohrigstad.
• Follow the signs to R36 Ohrigstad, Hoedspruit or Tzaneen. It is marked 47 km to Ohrigstad as you leave Mashishing. Stay on the R36. Pass through Ohrigstad, later over the beautiful Abel Erasmus Pass through the JG Strydom tunnel, following the signs to Hoedspruit.
• Once you have passed the Tzaneen turn-off but before Hoedspruit, turn right onto the R531 to Klaserie/ Acornhoek/ Orpen. Travel approximately 30km to reach the R40.
• You will pass under a railway bridge and join the R40. A few kilometres after this, turn left at the Orpen sign. Take this road for about 40km.
• You will reach a boomed gate at the entrance to the national park. If asked, inform the guards that you are going to Ngala Safari Lodge- there is no vehicle entrance fee.
• Conservation fees do apply for the national park and should have been prepaid to the lodge. The exact fee can be confirmed at the time of reservation.
• Continue to the end of this road to the roundabout/triangle and turn left on the dirt road and turn right again, where you will see the signs for Ngala Safari Lodge. Follow the road to the camp.

FROM NELSPRUIT TO NGALA SAFARI LODGE

• Take the R40 towards White River
• Pass through White River and continue to Hazyview, past Bushbuckridge and on to Acornhoek. At the traffic lights in Acornhoek, go straight towards Klaserie. A few kilometres further along the R40, take the right turn at the sign marked Orpen. Follow this road for about 40km.
• You will reach a boomed gate at the entrance to the national park. If asked, inform the guards that you are going to Ngala Safari Lodge- there is no vehicle entrance fee.
• Conservation fees do apply for the national park and should have been prepaid to the lodge. The exact fee can be confirmed at the time of reservation.
• Continue to the end of this road to the roundabout/triangle and turn left on the dirt road and turn right again, where you will see the signs for Ngala Safari Lodge. Follow the road to the camp.

FROM HOEDSPRUIT AIRPORT TO NGALA SAFARI LODGE

• Exit the Hoedspruit Airport (Eastgate Airport) and turn right onto Argyle Road towards the R40. At the T-juntion, turn left on the R40 (Klaserie Road) and carry on straight till you get to the next T-Junction.
• At this T–Junction you will turn left again (remaining on the R40). About 2km after this left turn you will see a sign marked Orpen.
• Turn Left at this sign and then follow this road for about 40km.
• You will reach a boomed gate at the entrance to the national park. If asked, inform the guards that you are going to Ngala Safari Lodge- there is no vehicle entrance fee.
• Conservation fees do apply for the national park and should have been prepaid to the lodge. The exact fee can be confirmed at the time of reservation.
