Nestled on the banks of the White iMfolozi River, Biyela Lodge promises to offer a front row seat to all the wildlife action as animals converge at this point for a refreshing drink and a dip in the cool water. Featuring a spa and gym, Biyela Lodge is best suited for adult guests seeking reprieve from the everyday bustle of life. Children 10 years and older are welcome.
This is one of few the places in the world where you can still see the scavenging birds of prey, vultures, thrive and enjoy the site of them as they launch to the skies from the rocky cliffs. Another endangered species to look for from your private balcony or the morning and evening game drives, is the African Wild Dog; there is a thriving population in this newly formed concession to the Hluhluwe iMfolozi Park.

A mere 24 guests at most can enjoy their luxurious private stand-alone suites, with access to a central lodge with pool, restaurant, bar and viewing decks. To the right when on the viewing deck, another set of cliffs mark the entrance to the valley where one of King Shaka of the Zulu’s most rebellious commanders, Mzilikazi and his clan hid from the wrath of the King.
There is a Large Pool at the Main Lodge area as well as an Africology Spa.
There is airconditioning in each of the Suites. Electricity is off grid and is thus limited– solar panels supply the entire Lodge with batteries and a back-up generator. Hair dryers are supplied in each Villa.
Familieswith children are encouraged to stay at one of the 2 Family Villas for their comfort. Children over 10 years of age are welcome on the Game Drive activity. You need to be 16 to participate on the walking safaris.
The Biyela and Mthembu Mantis lodges, embrace forward-thinking sustainability and the lodges highlight a special history of past conservation models and heroes that are attached to the site on which the lodge is built.
Tribal chiefs have contributed their land to increase the capacity of Hluhluwe-iMfolozi (the oldest proclaimed protected game park in South Africa) to allows species within the reserve to reproduce in a much larger protected area.

A large villa that flows from a lounge to a bedroom area with a dressing room behind the bed, on to a full bathroom with a walk-in double shower and bath with set against a large window. Each villa has a private balcony that runs down the full length of the villa and features an outdoor shower, and either a plunge pool or day bed.
The Hluhluwe Imfolozi Park is the oldest game reserve in South Africa dating back to 1895.
Biyela has 12 spacious, modern safari suites. The Villas are tiered on a descending cliff overlooking an oxbow lagoon in the White uMfolozi River.
10 of the Villas have private plunge pools while the other 2 have day beds. River frontage view from the Lodge with game often seen around and in front of the lodge.
It is a low risk Malaria area.
