About Ivory Tree Game Lodge
Ivory Tree Game Lodge is located in a basin on the eastern boundary of the Pilanesberg National Park with the closest point of entry being the Bakgatla Gate. The Pilanesberg National Park is a malaria-free game reserve in the North West Province close to Sun City only 2.5 hours drive from Johannesburg.
The Pilanesberg is notable for its unique geological feature, three concentric ridges or rings of hills that rise up from the surrounding plains. These make up the crater of a long extinct volcano believed to be one of the largest volcanic complexes of its kind in the world. The early presence of man can be seen in the numerous Stone and Iron Age sites that are scattered throughout the park.
Within the park exists a transition zone between the dry Kalahari and wetter Lowveld vegetation. This diverse "bushveld" is home to an abundance of wildlife including rare and common species with endemic species like the nocturnal brown hyena, the cheetah, the majestic sable, as well as giraffe, zebra, hippo and crocodile. The park is home to healthy populations of lion, leopard, black and white rhino, elephant and buffalo – Africa’s “Big Five”. Bird watching is excellent with over 300 species recorded.
The main lodge area at Ivory Tree includes two lounges, a bar and cocktail lounge, a multi-tiered dining room, the conference venue, curio shop and an open-air boma. The large swimming pool has been positioned between the main lodge building and the nearby waterhole. Guests can enjoy a 5-star dining experience at the restaurant or in the boma under the starlit African sky with the game rangers as your hosts. With 67 luxurious suites, Ivory Tree game lodge can easily and comfortably accommodate large groups, families as well as couples. The suites are separate stand-alone bungalows tastefully decorated in warm earthy tones and feature a range of amenities for your comfort and enjoyment. Overlooking the bushveld, each suite comes with a patio, air-conditioning and en-suite bathroom with bath and shower. Suite options include Executive, Luxury and Standard. The Executive and 2 of the Luxury Suites have a plunge pool on the private patio.
Guests have the opportunity to explore the game reserve twice a day (morning and early evening) in 10-seater open game vehicles with an experienced ranger. The game vehicles are not permitted to venture off-road.
Other activities offered in the surrounding area include archery, air gun, quad biking, bird watching, interactive drumming and hot air ballooning. Guests can also visit the Sun City complex nearby.
