Perched on a cliff overlooking the Sterkstroom River, one of the watercourses that give the Waterberg its name, Clifftop Lodge was designed by one of South Africa’s leading architects to be eco-friendly, both in its aesthetics and in its impact.

Situated a mere 2 ½ hours drive from Johannesburg, the Waterberg Mountains are acclaimed by South African Tourism as “South Africa’s hottest bush destination… a glorious malaria-free district”. The Waterberg Biosphere’s approach to both conservation and community upliftment recently led to its recognition by the United Nations Education, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO).
Awash with the sounds of the Sterkstroom River flowing below, each of the 8 luxury suites is en-suite, with both indoor and outdoor showers.The suites accommodate a maximum of 2 guests each. This keeps the atmoshere intimate and exclusive.
Unfortunately children Under 13 cannot be accommodated at Clifftop but Welgevonden has some great child friendly lodges, ask us for details.
Children over the age of 13, visiting us with their parents will need to to stay in their own suite.
Each room has its own private deck and plunge pool where you can watch game in the river valley below and on the opposing cliff face while you enjoy in the privacy and luxury of your secluded suites.
The suites all have indoor and outdoor Showers as well as large bathtub.
Game viewing in open vehicles affords guests the opportunity of viewing fauna and flora, whilst traversing the undulating hills, following river courses and open savannah plains.
The reserve is well stocked with lion, leopard, cheetah, wild dog, rhino, elephant, zebra, giraffe and plenty of other mammals, birds and trees.
Commanding a magnificent view of the Sterkstroom River valley, the saligna decks of the main complex are complemented by the rimless pool. Enjoy sundowners from an extensive bar, a sherry next to one of the many indoor fireplaces, or cocktails on the pool deck while watching the magnificent sunset.
The cuisine at Clifftop is a superb fusion of African and Western flavours.
The wine cellar’s walls are adorned with premium wines for the connoisseur. Enjoy an intimate dinner, cheese and wine, or a small function, in the privacy of the cellar, whilst being confronted with the panorama below.
The lodge has been designed for the purposes of catering for corporate workshops, merger & acquisition meetings, and other senior management meetings of a private nature. As the only official fully commercial site in a reserve designed to be private, we offer companies a secure total experience, away from prying eyes.
In addition to the 22-seater boardroom, the lodge boasts a well-stocked library with Internet facilities for those wanting to catch up on emails. There are numerous “break-out” areas for work shopping and idea generation.
The Thatched Suites are situated in such a way so as to maximise privacy. There is a viewing deck with private plunge pool. Each Suite also features inside and outside showers as well as a bath. There is Airconditioning available

Guests are welcome to arrive from 13H00 until 18H00 when the gates will close. You will be collected at the East Gate of the Welgevonden Reserve in an open Land Rover between 13h00 & 18h00
Guests are requested to be ready to be ready to leave after breakfast from 10H00
