About Shisaka Camp
Sandringham Shisaka Camp is an intimate luxury safari camp in the Timbavati region of South Africa, forming part of the Greater Kruger ecosystem. Set along the banks of a tributary of the Timbavati River, the camp is surrounded by pristine bushveld and offers an immersive safari experience in a beautiful wilderness setting.
The camp has just six luxury suites, each designed to blend naturally into the surrounding Tamboti woodland. The name Shisaka means “nest” in Tsonga, reflected in the distinctive rooftop salas above each suite. Accessed by a staircase from the private deck, these elevated spaces provide a peaceful spot to relax, watch the abundant birdlife or take in the stars after dark.
Each spacious suite has been designed for indoor-outdoor living, with large glass doors opening onto a shaded private timber deck and infinity pool. Inside, a king-size bed is positioned to make the most of the surrounding views, while the generous bathroom features double vanities, a freestanding bath and both indoor and outdoor showers. Views extend across the tributary towards the distant Drakensberg Mountains.
The safari experience is central to a stay at Shisaka Camp, with morning and afternoon game drives as well as night drives providing opportunities to experience the wildlife at different times of the day. Guided wilderness walks offer another way to explore the reserve, with a focus on understanding the smaller details of the ecosystem and its natural environment.
Sandringham Private Game Reserve covers approximately 4,500 hectares and represents a significant conservation story. Former hunting grounds have been transformed into a protected wilderness area focused on habitat restoration and the rehabilitation of the natural environment. The reserve forms part of the wider Greater Kruger ecosystem and provides a low-density setting for game viewing.
Guests at Shisaka can also enjoy the camp's main lodge facilities, including open-air dining and lounge areas, a traditional boma, wellness facilities and a bar and wine cellar. The camp combines a relatively intimate safari atmosphere with the high standards of hospitality associated with the Sabi Sabi Collection.
Rates include accommodation, meals, selected drinks, daily and night game drives, environmental awareness walking safaris, Wi-Fi, limited laundry and transfers to and from Sandringham airstrip. Spa treatments, premium wines and French Champagne, transfers to and from Hoedspruit Airport and selected other services are available at an additional cost.
With only six suites, private decks and pools, and a setting overlooking the Timbavati wilderness, Shisaka Camp is particularly suited to travellers looking for an intimate and private safari experience rather than a large traditional safari lodge.
